Well it’s a back to back set of games for me as the Jackets lost in a shootout last night to the Sharks. Tonight we are set to take on the last place Toronto Maple Leafs.

For those who haven’t been following, the NHL Team League is from the website LeagueGaming. There are currently 12 total teams (each with it’s own minor league team) made up of several individual players. The idea is that everyone controls one player on the team using the Online Team play aspect of NHL 08. Games are 3 on 3. Check out the site for more details.

Meanwhile, on with my 5th game with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

GAME NOTES:

COLUMBUS:

The Blue Jackets enter this game with a record of 8-3-2. We are tied for 2nd place in the Western Conference with Vancouver with 18 points having played one fewer game. Columbus is 2 points behind the San Jose Sharks whom we have played TWO fewer games than. Standings-wise, we are sitting pretty good.

TORONTO:

The Maple Leafs sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 2-10-3 record and have dropped six straight games. They have also given up a league worst 73 goals while they are second from the bottom in goals scored with 37 (Detroit – 21).

This game seems one sided but with different combinations of players playing, anything can surely happen.

I’ve clearly played a lot with Epikon and know exactly how he plays. I’ve played in a practice with jcon77, but never in a regular season game. He is the team captain so he is obviously knows how to play. Let’s hope for the best and get a couple goals while we’re out there.

GO JACKETS!

The First Period played out great to start. At 6:37 a loose puck fluttered into the neutral zone off a defenseman and I was the only one there to get it as David Vyborny. I had a breakaway and scored to make it 1-0. 3 Minutes later Jcon77 had Rick Nash who buried a goal after 3 rebounds to make it 2-0.

The Leafs answered with that very weak floating wrist shot glove side that goes in more frequently than it should…..TWICE. Bartlett89 of Toronto did the exact same thing in a 4 minute span with Mats Sundin to tie it at two. I understand there are no rules as far as sim play is concerned, but come on. Weak.

After Toronto’s team experienced a problem, we had to restart the game and began play in the 2nd period tied at 2.

Epikon fed me a good pass and I blasted one in with Jared Boll to take the lead…3-2 Jackets after 2.

Jcon went nuts mid-way through the third period getting a couple garbage goals thanks to him crashing the net.

Bartlett capped his hat trick with a steal in front of our net to make it 5-3 Jackets.

2 minutes later I got a trick of my own with Dan Fritsche and that’s how we finished, 6-3 in a very convincing victory.

I thought that was by far the best effort we’ve put forth in a game I’ve played. We were very disciplined taking zero penalties and we out shot them by 8.

JK’s Game Stats:

3 goals.

JK’s Season Stats:

5 games played, 6 goals and 2 assists. Team record: 2-2-1

Columbus as a team improves to 9-3-2 in a deadlock with San Jose for first place. Columbus as played one fewer game however.
